TYPES OF FIXED PROSTHESES
DENTAL CROWN
A dental crown is a fixed prosthesis that serves to completely recreate the crown of the tooth, i.e. the visible part, the part that we see when we smile and use to chew.
To make room for the dental capsule, the dentist is forced to monconize the tooth or the part that remains of it, i.e. to make the upper part of the tooth smaller. In this case, the tooth is said to have been encapsulated.
DENTAL INLAY
The dental inlay is the smallest fixed prosthesis that exists as it is intended for the reconstruction of a part of the tooth crown that has been damaged by caries that has corroded a large part of the enamel or by a fracture due to trauma.
FIXED PROSTHESIS ON NATURAL TEETH
When the patient comes to the practice with a few teeth left in the mouth, the dentist, after taking an anamnesis, may decide that the remaining dental elements are sufficient to do the work that would otherwise have to be done by dental implants.
In this case, therefore, one proceeds with the treatment of the roots that are still in good condition and the extraction of the teeth that cannot help.
The next step is to reduce the cured teeth to a stump and prepare them, with the possible use of stump posts, to act as abutments for the support and retention of the prosthesis, which in this case is called fixed prosthesis on natural teeth.
