The dental implant consists of a small but very solid post made of biocompatible titanium. This is inserted into the jawbone during an operation under local anaesthesia and replaces the root of the missing tooth, acting as a support for the new tooth. The healing phase lasts between 6 and 12 weeks, depending on each patient’s condition. During this period, the implant gradually attaches to the jawbone, a process known as osseointegration. Once healed, this artificial root serves as the basis for the attachment of single crowns or bridges of several teeth, or a complete dental prosthesis.
